Intel's New Processor

Intel's New Product In Processors

After weeks, Intel finally lifted the kilt to show us details of its 6th generation CPU. Besides being faster and using less power than its predecessors, Skylake chips can drive multiple 4K displays, feature new instructions to speed up security operations, and even hardened memory defenses.

The unlocked Intel Core i7-6700K(14nm Skylake) and Intel Core i5-6600K (14nm Skylake) desktop chips earlier this month. Intel has since confirmed that it will be rolling out some mobile equivalents to hardware partners to be equipped in enthusiast laptops available later this year.
Why Intel calls Skylake a 6th-generation CPU

Want to stump your IT know-it-all with a bit of Intel trivia that few know, yet is featured prominently on most new PCs today? Intel’s proudly touting the new Skylake processor as its "6th-gen" Core chip.
The actual first-gen Core processor, Intel told me, is—drum roll please—the Core i5-655K “Clarkdale” on desktops or “Arrandale” in laptops.
Whaaa...? Never heard of it? Don't feel bad. Few people have.
It was a dual-core processor based on the 32nm “Westmere” cores that had already been introduced with the six-core Core i7-980X CPU. And what makes this chip first-gen, while other Westmere-based CPUs (as well as the two previous Core i7 CPUs) don’t rate a “gen” rating?

The graphics core.

With Clarkdale and Arrandale, Intel integrated its first graphics core ever into a CPU package. And unlike a modern day “6th gen” Skylake processor, Intel didn’t have the capability to actually put the graphics into the CPU die itself back then. Instead, the graphics were a separate chip that sat next to the two x86 CPU cores, as you can see from the above picture.
It runs with a record breaking speed of 7GHz

A professional overclocker from Hong Kong has managed o overclock the Intel Core i7-6700L Skylake microsprocessor to nearly 7GHz clock speeds. This overclocked speed is among the highest ever achievd by any product of Intel Core-i series.

According to Kitguru, Kui Lam, a professional overclocker from HKEPC website from Hong Kong, has overclocked an engineering sample of Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake microprocessor to whopping 6998.88MHz. This clock speed is about 74.9.7 per cent more that its normal stock frequency.
To achieve this, Kui Lam had to disable three cores out if four and the Hyper-Threading technology, and the voltage of the processor was increased from 1.2V to 1.888V

While this professional overclocker acheiver speeds up to 7GHz using Intel Core i7 Skylake processors, it would be interesting to notice if the retail versions of these microprocessor chip will be able to kiss even 5GHz mark with the commercially available cooling systems. Another point that needs to be looked upon is the use of single core instead of all four. This extreme overclocking is surely interesing, but with changing times, the value of single-core CPU is diminishing.
